Description:

Manufactured in 1903, this is an exceptional representative example of a Winchester Model 1892 saddle ring carbine that at some point found its way to Britain. Carbines such as this would have been valued in the far reaches of the British Empire for their mobile firepower. There are British proofs on the left of the barrel and receiver at the breech, and there is an import mark. The standard two-line address is on top of the barrel along with the caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model, trademark, and patent information, and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a pinned German silver blade front sight, folding ladder rear sight, and a saddle ring on the left of the receiver. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 85% plus of the original blue finish, 40% of the original case colors on the lever and hammer, and 60% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance having thinned to either a smooth grey patina or a plum brown patina with some light pitting scattered in small patches. The reoiled wood is also very fine with some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
