Manufactured in 1910, this is a fine example of a special order Winchester deluxe Model 1886 extra lightweight rifle. These rifles have remained desirable to collector's and shooters in almost any condition due to their practical configuration and iconic caliber. There are Winchester factory oval proofs on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. This example is marked with the standard two-line address and patent dates on the upper left of the barrel along with the nickel steel marking and caliber marking. The three-line model and trademark information are on the upper tang and the two-line patent dates and serial number are on the lower tang. The left side of the lower tang is marked "54 XX", with "54" repeated in the stock inlet. It is fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight fitted on the standard extra lightweight soldered ramp, Lyman two-leaf rear sight, and a Lyman peep sight mounted on the left of the receiver, all of which were likely special ordered from the factory. The rifle also has a half magazine, which is typically seen on "extra lightweight" rifles. It is mounted with a very finely figured and H-pattern checkered forearms and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber grip cap and checkered, hard rubber, shotgun buttplate.

Fine, retains 60% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina and some small speckled patches of light pitting concentrated on the upper right of the receiver. The lightly sanded and reoiled wood is very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches, a minor chip absent from the toe of the buttplate, and well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
