This incredible cased set features an octagon .50 caliber rifled barrel signed "-I-BRENNAN" with a fixed silver blade front sight and a dovetailed notch rear sight and an octagon to round 20 gauge smoothbore barrel signed "I BRENNAN" with a silver blade front sight. Each barrel has a gold banded patent breech with a bands of engraving and gold vent liner and its own wooden ramrod with appropriate tip. The standing breech has English style floral and burst engraving. The bright L&R English Durs Egg - London lock also features floral and burst pattern engraving. The plum brown trigger guard features a pineapple finial, English martial themed engraving with decorative borders on the bow, and burst engraving on the scroll of the extension. The blued buttplate features additional martial and scroll engraving. The nicely figured stock has an ebony forend tip, checkered wrist, an oval cheekpiece, and a 14 inch length of pull. The fitted case has a "JUDSON-J-BRENNAN/GUN MAKER/to the/discriminating sportsman" trade label inside the lid based on John Krider's trade label along with a black leather bound powder flask and a brown leather shot flask. Jud Brennan along with his sons Jesse, David, and Seth are truly among the most talented contemporary muzzleloading artisans and have produced a wide variety of pieces. Their work is highly sought after with examples found in some of the finest gun collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
