These pistols were originally built as flintlocks in the early 19th century and were then professionally converted to percussion around the 1830s. The smoothbore, Damascus barrels have dovetail mounted silver blade front sights, "Mortimer" and "London" marked on top in different scripts, Birmingham proofs, and scroll engraved breech plugs. The fixed notch rear sights are on the standing breeches. The locks are signed "MORTIMER" and have scroll and border engraving and sliding safeties. The pistols feature adjustable single set triggers enclosed in blued trigger guards with floral and martial engraving. The forend caps, oval wedge escutcheons, and blank wrist escutcheons are silver. The half-stocks have checkered bag shaped grips. The pair comes in a relined case fitted to the pair that also contains cap tins, a "31" marked ball mold, an unmarked approximately 33 bore mold, an oiler, a three-way combination flask, and a screwdriver and nipple wrench set.

Rating Definition:

Very good with distinct markings and engraving, attractive aged patina on the silver, 75% period refurbished blue, gray and brown patina on the balance, some nice twist patterns visible along the barrel, and fairly minor overall wear. The stock is also fine and has crisp checkering, minor edge wear, and some light scratches. Mechanically fine. The relined case is good with some repairs and storage wear. The accessories are mostly fine with mild wear.
