Description:

Manufactured in Germany on contract for Costa Rica. Most famous for no longer existing, the Costa Rican Army had approximately 65 machine guns in various flavors at the time of its abolition in 1948; few Costa Rican Maxims ever existed, and far fewer have been seen registered in the United States. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with a short recoil booster muzzle device on the smooth steel water jacket, a "butterfly" trigger with thumb safety, and a pair of hardwood grips with integral oilers. Multiple components are "DWM" marked, with the tension mechanism marked "BERLIN/1910" and the top cover bearing the coat of arms of Costa Rica over "Mod. 1910". Included with the lot is a folding tripod with a brass Berlin data plate on the back leg.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 70% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, scattered spotting, and light handing marks. The grips are cracked and chipped, and the tripod is in good order. The bolt assembly is numbered "5629/A", with other visible numbers matching. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
