Historic Documented World War I Erfurt "1918" Dated Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with World War II Era 42nd Infantry Division "AG USFET Form No 33" Capture Paper

A standout historic example of a World War I era Imperial German issued and reworked Erfurt Luger pistol with a World War II era capture certificate. The included "AG USFET Form No 33" capture certificate from the European Theater of Operations (ETO), dated 9 April 1946, lists this pistol by serial number as the trophy of "T/5 E. C. Pellegrino" of the 42 Infantry Division, with the certificate further noting "This man was in the ETO before VE day." and listing the pistol as "1 Luger 38 Cal. Serial no. 9248." Nicknamed the "Rainbow Division" for being made up of Army National Guard units from multiple different states, the 42nd Infantry Division fought extensively in World War I and in the final months of World War II, including the capture of the German city of Wurzburg and the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp in April 1945, before conducting occupation duties in Austria after the war. The pistol features fixed sights, "1918" date on the chamber, and "crown/ERFURT" marked on the front toggle link. With "crown/Gothic letter" proofs on the right side of the extension, as well as a "crown/RC" proof, also, found on the front of the trigger guard and left side of the barrel that signifies World War I era arsenal rework, repair, and reissue of a pistol brought back from the front lines. Matching external serial numbers on the frame, barrel, and extension, with matching "48" partials on the takedown lever, trigger, side plate, safety, both toggle links, breech block, extractor, and breech block catch. Fitted with a matching pair of checkered walnut grips numbered "48" on the interior and a nickel finished magazine with walnut base numbered to another pistol.

Rating definitionFine as a World War I era arsenal rework that remained in Germany and was later captured by a World War I veteran American division, retaining 75% plus arsenal refurbished blue finish and 30% straw colors with scattered light pitting/spotting, light edge wear, thinning, and smooth brown patina. The grips are very fine with a crack in the left panel and defined checkering. Mechanically excellent. A storied Luger with evidence of involvement in both World Wars.
