Description:

Manufactured circa 1915-1917, these Lugers were produced in England for military export to the Netherlands. While neutral in the First World War, many of these pistols saw hard use at sea with the Royal Netherlands Navy, which continued to fight on in World War II even after the loss of their home ports to the Germans and their East Indies bases to the Japanese. Fixed sights, with the DWM logo on the toggle link, "RUST" safety marking, "GELADEN" on the extractor, "crown/N" proof on the left of the barrel extension and a circled "HLK" marking on right. This marking is noted in Costanzo's book on page 300, which listed the proof as an early "Dutch Colonies" mark. A brass plate stamped with the unit marking "e-I Atj./4" is located on the left of the frame. Non-matching replacement nickel finished magazine numbered "4484" on the walnut base, "62" on the rear toggle pin, with otherwise matching remaining visible serial numbers including the inside of both grip panels.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 70% arsenal refurbished blue finish with scattered freckling and edge wear, and some areas of brown patina, and 50% of the straw colors showing on small parts. Grips are very fine with some light handling marks, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
