Description:

This is a very fine example of a restored World War I U.S. Army contract Model 1911 pistol manufactured by the Colt in early 1918. This pistol was manufactured with the new late style block letter markings without serifs. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration, grips not listed, as well as shipment to Springfield Armory on 26 February 1918. The left side of the slide has the standard Colt factory two-line, two-block markings with the Rampant Colt behind the slide serrations. The right side is marked "MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY." The left side of the frame is remarked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and has the re-stamped circled "JMG" proof of J.M. Gilbert above the magazine release, and the right side is stamped with the serial number. The blued barrel has "H" and "P" proof marks on the chamber hood. It is fitted with a checkered wide hammer, flat mainspring housing, checkered slide stop, checkered thumb safety, a pair of diamond pattern checkered walnut grips, and an unmarked two-tone magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 99% plus of the professionally restored brushed blue finish with only the slightest handling marks. The grips are also very fine with a few scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. An attractive, professionally restored example of a 1918 production, World War I U.S. Colt Model 1911 pistol!
