Description:

In 1967 Mario Abbiatico and Remo Salvinelli founded Fabbrica Armi di Mario Abbiatico e Remo Salvinelli, now more commonly know as FAMARS. Since the beginning the two have been innovators and have made a name for themselves creating some of the finest bespoke guns ever built. The gun is built with blued steel chopperlump barrels featuring a single nickel bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib, "Abbiatico & Salvinelli" signed on the left tube, a band of line engraving at the breech, and 1978 dated Italian proofs showing 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a highly attractive coin finished sidelock action which shows off beautifully executed floral scroll engraving surrounding a trio of gorgeous game bird scenes before continuing onto the triggerguard, toplever, and both tangs. The game scenes consist of a flock of mallards descending onto a pond with farm houses in the background on the left lockplate, the underside shows the flock touching down on the surface of the pond, and the right lockplate has the flock taking off from the surface of the pond, all three are cut in outstanding highly detailed bulino style showing a mastery of the craft. The engraving has been signed on both lockplates and on the underside "Galeazzi" by the highly renowned Italian Master Engraver Fausti Galeazzi. The gun features bushed firing pins, a single trigger, right hand rolled triggerguard, and a manual tang mounted safety. The gun is mounted with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered beavertail forend with engraved fittings, an Anson button release, and a blank A&S inscription shield along with a pistol grip stock with teardrop carved drop points and a checkered bare butt. Includes an oak and leather takedown case containing a factory trade label, nickel oiler, and cleaning tools. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed at 14.2mm (.559 inches) and measured .560/.562 inches; choke constriction .009/.041 inches; 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 1 13/16 inch drop at heel; 14 5/16 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 5 lbs. 1 oz.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence, a few minor pressure marks in the wood, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. The case is very good. Mechanically excellent. A great chance to own the work of a true Italian master!
