Description:

Offered here is one of, if not the only, prototype of the Smith & Wesson Model 4006. This was slated to be the flagship model of their third generation of S&W's iconic double action/single action series of handguns. Shortly after it's January 17, 1990 release date, the model was selected by California State Police to be their standard service pistol. The 4006 would remain, albeit with the eventual addition of a light rail, in service with CSP until 2011. Fitted with white dot blade front and fully adjustable rear sight with protective ears giving the pistol its distinctive silhouette. The left side of the slide has the S&W address while the frame is marked on the left with the model and "X" prefix prototype serial number. Includes a generic hard case and an extra magazine. Provenance: The Jon M. Maxwell Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with some light handling marks, some light holster wear, and a couple spots of minor discoloration on the frame from age. Grips are very fine with a couple dings and slightly softened grip checkering. Mechanically excellent. This would make a very welcome addition to any Smith & Wesson collection!
