Based off of the design of the SIG 220 pistol with the addition of double-stack magazines, the P226 competed against Beretta's 92FS pistol design during the XM9 Service Pistol Trails but ultimately lost out in favor of the latter. Despite this, the P226 became a popular option amongst military and law enforcement circles around the world since its introduction in 1985. This specific example showcases that fact with a Swiss Neuchatel City Police crest laser etched into the top of the slide, indicating Swiss police use. Features dovetailed and tritium lamped front and rear sights, along with matching "U 652 943" serial numbers and "eagle/n" proofs on the slide, frame, and barrel. The slide has an import mark under the rail flats near the muzzle. The barrel is also marked with a Swiss "Bernerprobe" and "03" dated letter code proofs. Excellent overall as a Swiss issued police pistol, retaining 95% nitron and black finishes with scattered light handling marks, edge wear, and light spotting on the slide and sights. Mechanically excellent.
