Manufactured in 1885. The included factory letter confirms the rifle was received in the Winchester warehouse on April 13, 1885, and shipped the following day as part of order number 20041 in rifle configuration with a .45-60 chambered octagon barrel, set trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, Lyman sights, 1/2 magazine, casehardened receiver, and sling swivels. The rifle has the Third Model receiver with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated edges. The special order features include the fancy grain walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with Winchester "Style H" checkering, half-magazine, sling swivels on the forearm cap and stock, and the single set trigger. The barrel has a folding combination globe and post front sight and a standard Model 1876 folding leaf rear sight. A Lyman peep sight with fine knurling on the post, heavy base and "PAT.JAN. 29.79" markings is mounted on the upper tang. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING ARMS.NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1865. OCTOBER 16. 1860." ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation "CAL. 45-60" is stamped on the top barrel flat just ahead of the receiver. "45-60" is stamped in script numerals on the bottom of the cartridge elevator. The serial number is stamped in small numerals across the lower tang between the lever latch and the tang screw.

Excellent, 85% of the original case colors remain with only some fading mainly on the top of the receiver and buttplate. Nearly all of the original blue finish is present on the loading gate. The dust cover retains 80% of the original blue finish. The barrel retains 60% of the original blue finish, smooth brown patina on the balance, a few spots of age related discoloration, and scattered traces of light pitting. The markings are sharp. The highly figured, fancy grain walnut stock and forearm are very fine and retain 90% of the original high polish piano finish, crisp checkering, and scattered minor dents and handling wear. This is a highly attractive example of a rare and very desirable Winchester Deluxe Model 1876 Sporting Rifle with many special order features.
