Description:

Manufactured in 1875-1889, the Model 1875 Single Action revolver was Remington's attempt to compete with the Colt Single Action Army. Although the revolver was arguably a better, more durable design than Colt's Single Action Army, the lack of government contracts and a slightly later start limited sales. Despite this, Remington's Model 1875 remained a desirable sidearm on the Western Frontier to those not caught up in the hype of Colt's revolver. The revolver has a rare factory blue finish on the barrel, cylinder and frame. Most of this model, if not nearly all, were nickel plated. The top of the barrel is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILLION. N.Y. U.S.A." The left grip panel has the caliber designation "44" for .44-40 WCF. The butt has a factory fitted lanyard loop. The number "295" is stamped on the lower left side of the frame beneath the grip. Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern Clergyman

Rating Definition:

Very good, retaining 30% plus original blue finish with a smooth brown-gray patina on the balance and some scattered patches of pitting associated with a well-traveled revolver. The slightly oversize replacement grips are fine with some minor handling marks and crisp "44" marking. Mechanically excellent.
