Description:

This attractive post-Civil War Colt Model 1861/72 Navy cartridge revolver was manufactured in the mid-1870s within the separate 100-3300 serial number range, factory made using a mix of percussion revolver parts on hand and newly fabricated components. These revolvers are very rare with an estimated total production of just 2,200. They are particularly difficult to acquire in high condition. The barrel has a blade front sight, and the top is roll-stamped "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-.", the "COLTS/PATENT" marking is on the left side of the frame, "36 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard, and the cylinder has the classic Naval Battle of Campeche roll scene. Matching serial numbers visible on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, and cylinder. A "1" is stamped above the barrel serial number, and below the serial number on the frame, trigger guard and back strap serial numbers. Assembly number "1043" marked on the loading gate. The revolver has a full nickel finish with an unmarked attractively tooled brown leather "Slim Jim" holster.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, retains 90% plus original nickel plating with some loss on the hammer, a few areas of light edge wear and a few small patches of minor pitting. Grip is fine with some scattered flaking of the outer varnish finish and some scattered scratches and handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Holster is fine with some light age related wear and stitching holes visible where an absent hook once resided on the rear. An attractive Colt Model 1861 Navy Richards-Mason conversion revolver with period tooled leather holster that would make a fine addition to any American western arms collection!
