Description:

The Colt Model 1849 Pocket was the most popular Colt revolver of the 19th century but remains hard to acquire in very high condition given most examples appear to have actually been carried. This revolver manufactured in 1863 remains in exceptional condition and comes in a period case. It has a cone front sight and the one-line New York barrel address. The left side of the frame has the small "COLTS/PATENT" marking. The trigger guard has "31 CAL" on the left. The six-shot cylinder has the classic stagecoach scene. The wedge, cylinder, and arbor pin are numbered "39678," the loading lever is numbered "9678", and the full serial number "239678" is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The butt is hand marked "AMXX." The partitioned case with red lining contains some balls and bullets, single sided powder flask, "L" shaped combination tool, two cavity bullet mold with faint Colt marking, case key, and Eley cap tin. Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern Clergyman

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 60% plus bright original polish blue finish with smooth brown patina on the balance. The cylinder scene is clear overall. 85% original vivid case colors remain on the loading lever, frame, and hammer. The brass grip straps have an attractive appearance. The grip is very fine with minor handling marks, some high edge wear, and most of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with a cracked lid, handling/storage marks, and typical high spot wear on the lining. The accessories are good. A charming Civil War era Colt Model 1849 percussion revolver.
