Description:

The model 1855 rifles were manufactured at Harpers Ferry in 1857-1861. Around 8,700 were produced, of which 5,151 had iron mounts. It has standard markings and features including an "1860" dated lock, a partly obscured barrel date that appears to be the same, "V/P/eagle head" proofs on the left quarter of the breech, eagle and shield motif on the primer door, blade front sight, a sword bayonet lug, rear sight with flip-up leafs, iron fittings, left stock flat stamped with two bordered script inspection cartouches, and "US" marked buttplate tang. Includes an extra nipple and worm tool inside the patchbox.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with traces of brown finish on the once cleaned barrel, 30% applied niter blue finish on the lower trigger guard/tang assembly and buttplate, with moderate flash pitting, scattered patches of light freckling and corrosion, defined lock markings, a obscured barrel date, and defined breech proofs. Stock is fine with scattered scratches and dents, a few small chips, a crack visible behind the lock, and defined edges. Mechanically excellent.
