A) M. Lenz Percussion Pistol

Michael Lenz (Lentz) is recorded on Forest Street in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1802 and then 36 Light St. in 1804. When and where he was active prior and later is unclear. These pistols have a very Continental European style to them. The smoothbore barrels have silver blade front sights with "spider" bases and "BALTIMORE" marked on top of the octagonal breech sections. The locks are marked "M. LENZ" at center. The furniture is silver. The highly figured stocks have some molding and carved "caps" in addition to the actual silver pommel caps.

ConditionFine as converted to percussion with a mix of period refurbished blue finish and dark patina on the barrel and lock, minor pitting, aged patina on the silver, and general mild wear. The refinished stock is very good and has very attractive figure and some chips, cracks, and repairs. Mechanically fine.
