Description:

This pair of classic French Empire pistols are from Delaroa of Bordeaux, France, around 1820. The lock on the "A" pistol is signed "Delaroa," and the "B" pistol is signed "ABordeaux." The barrels are signed "Delaroa ABordeaux" and have "TORDU," "A/C" markings, and an unclear marking under the stock line at the breech. The cannon style barrels and locks are silver plated, and the furniture is silver. Inside the trigger guard bows are hallmarks including diamond "CC" stamps. Some of the smaller parts are niter blue, and the pans and vents are gold lined. There are beaded bands, acanthus leaf patterns, a man with a club on the trigger guard bows (possibly Hercules), intricate silver wire inlaid scroll patterns, silver diamond patterns with floral blooms along the back of the wrists, and silver wire borders around the checkering on the sides of the wrists.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine with aged patina on the silver, crisp engraving and markings, strong original niter blue on the cock and some of the small parts, and mild wear. The stock is very fine aside from a small crack above the lock screw and a few tiny flakes at the edges and has crisp checkering, a few minor spots of bent wire inlay, and light scratches and marks. Mechanically excellent.
