Description:

This 18th century musket features a smoothbore, two-stage, round barrel with a small blade front sight, girdles above the ramrod entry point followed by an unclear marking that appears to include "110", and no visible proofs. The musket lock has the Georgian cipher at the center and "DUBLIN/CASTLE" marked on the rear. The side plate and trigger guard are also Brown Bess pattern. The wrist escutcheon, buttplate and two ramrod pipes are also brass but are non-martial pattern. The stock has an "apron" around the barrel tang and has a Brown Bess style butt. The tags with the gun attribute it as an American restocked musket.

Rating Definition:

Fair with mix of dark patina and applied blue/brown, reworked vent, chipped refaced frizzen, moderate oxidation and pitting, modified pan, modern replacement top jaw and jaw screw, aged patina on the brass, dented and chipped buttplate with a split and gap at the heel, and moderate to heavy overall wear. The partially restored stock is fair with a spliced forend, chips and cracks, and repaired wrist. Mechanically fine.
