World War I U.S. Colt Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol

Manufactured in 1918, and falling within the 217,801 to 222,800 serial range listed on page 519 of "U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1894-1920" by Meadows as a shipment of 5,000 pistols sent to the ordnance department of Greenville Piers in Jersey City, New Jersey, on January 3, 1918, to be sent overseas for issuance to the American Expeditionary Force. Features fixed oval blade front and notch rear sights, blued barrel with "P" and "H" marked on top and "5" on the bottom, long smooth trigger, checkered slide release and thumb safety, short grip safety, wide checkered hammer, and a smooth straight mainspring housing with a lanyard loop on the base. The slide bears the two-line, two-block patent dates and address on the left with the uncircled "Rampant Colt" behind the slide serrations, along with model and U.S. Army nomenclature on the right and "H" marked at the top of the hammer recess. The left side of the frame has a U.S. property marking and "JMG" inspection mark, with serial number on the right. Fitted with a pair of diamond pattern checkered walnut grips and an "R" marked two-tone magazine with pinned base.

ConditionFine, retaining 70% plus original blue finish with scattered minor spotting and brown patina, thinning on the grip straps with light freckling, light holster pattern edge wear, and light handling marks. The grips are very fine with minor compression wear, a few minor scuffs, the upper right screw bushing stuck to the grip, and otherwise well defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
