Description:

Built on a legendary Mauser Magnum action and chamber in the venerable .500 Jeffery Magnum, this massive rifle would make an excellent companion in the bush stalking a bull elephant or even the meanest cape buffalo. Fitted with a blued contoured steel barrel which features a beaded blade front sight on an island style base, three-position (one standing, two folding) rear sight labelled "1", "2", and "3" with platinum centerlines on the short quarter rib, and a sling eyelet on the underside. The barrel is signed "W. J. JEFFERY & Co. Ltd. 9 GOLDEN SQUARE. REGENT STREET. LONDON. W. 1." and the number "25369." between the front and rear sights as well as Birmingham nitro proof marked to the right of the chamber listing the charge as "2.75'/NORMAL 116 - 532" meaning a 532 grain bullet over 116 grains of powder in a 2 3/4 inch case. The barrel is fitted to the previously mentioned Mauser Magnum action which features a fine blue finish, a matted round front bridge, matted rear square bridge, bolt numbered "6643" (partial original Mauser serial number) with partial number "43" on the extractor, safety lever, and bolt sleeve, and a nitre blue ejector box with the same partial serial number "43" stamped on top. The underside of the action is stamped with a Mauser banner and the serial number "106643" placing its production circa 1930-1931. The proportionally sized bottom metal is handsomely blued and bears no markings aside from the nicely cut serial number on the triggerguard bow. The rifle is mounted in a nicely figured and multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with horn forend tip, casehardened recoil lug, rear sling eyelet, and a Pachmayr Old English recoil pad. Length of pull 14 11/16 inches. Weight 10 lbs. 4 oz. Provenance: The William Feldstein Collection; The Robert M. Lee Collection; Property of a Gentleman

Rating Definition:

Very fine plus, retaining 95% plus strong original blue finish with crisp signature on the barrel and some light age related surface discoloration from handling at the mid-point. The receiver retains 95% plus original blue finish with some thinning and sharp bridge checkering. The bolt handle shows the expected handling wear and bolt body has light wear. The magazine floorplate and triggerguard show some light storage wear. There is some minor storage and handling marks to the stock, slight chips to horn cap, and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Do not miss this chance to own a classic rifle capable of taking any game on the planet!
