Manufactured circa 1988. The accompanying Custom Shop Order (copy) is dated March 27, 1988, and indicates that the rifle was billed to U.S. Repeating Arms Company as a "1989 show gun." Under "Special Handling" the order breaks down several features: hone action with polish slots, fancy English classic walnut stock with black 90 degree tip, satin poly finish, leather cover pad, 22 line point carving, and engraved 24k gold inlay by famed Master Engraver Howard Dove. Work on the rifle began on June 13, 1988. The barrel is made without sights and marked "MODEL70 XTR SPORTER 270 WIN" and has a large wedge of floral scroll engraving with two gold bands at the breech and the Winchester proofs in gold inlay also. The muzzle features two gold bands on each side of border engraving. Action has full coverage floral scroll engraving with gold inlay "WINCHESTER/TRADE MARK" on the left and gold border on the edges. Floral scroll engraved floor plate and trigger guard with gold relief Winchester Rider and steer skull on the floorplate, a gold inlay "W" on the triggerguard with gold border on both. The grip cap is also nicely floral scroll and border engraved with a gold oval in the center. "FIRE" on the safety is gold inlay. Jeweled bolt and follower Extra fancy walnut stock with fine line checkering on the forearm and pistol grip, inlaid swivel bases and a brown solid recoil pad with black spacer.

Excellent overall, retaining 99% plus original blue and gold finishes with limited handling marks and crisp stock checkering. Mechanically excellent. A highly attractive factory engraved and gold inlaid Winchester Model 70 rifle.
