The long rifle is signed "S Deming" or "J Deming" on the barrel which also has a dot pattern around the muzzle, seven-groove rifling, traditional blade and notch sights, and a wavy line pattern engraved ahead of the rear sight. The lock is marked "KETLAND/&/ADAMS" (c. 1820) and has simple border and floral engraving. The lock screws have individual washers rather than passing through a side plate. It is equipped with a plain single trigger. A small silver oval with wavy line engraving is inlayed in the wrist which has a checkered and dot design with scalloped rear border. The toe plate and four piece patchbox are engraved. The stock has an incised line along the forend, a silver crescent moon inlay on the cheekpiece, and incised scroll carving on the left side of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period converted to percussion with a mix of gray and brown patina on the lock and barrel, some mild pitting, mix of bright polished surfaces and aged patina on the brass, rear section of the toe plate absent, mild aged patina on the silver, and general mild overall wear. The refinished stock is also very good and has very attractive flame figure throughout, distinct carving, minor edge wear, and some thin cracks in the butt. Mechanically fine.
