Extremely Fine Cased Colt London Model 1849 Percussion Revolver

revolvers were manufactured from 1853 to 1857 and serial numbered in their own range, 1-11,000. This is a nice example of a cased 1849 Pocket London manufactured in 1856. The London Model is identical in configuration to the standard Model 1849 but has a higher quality of finish with this example having blued iron grip strap. The top barrel flat is marked "-{ADDRESS. COL. COLT./LONDON.}-" inside fancy brackets. "COLTS/PATENT" is on the left side of the frame, and the cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene. The left side of the barrel lug is marked with "crown/GP" and "crown/V" London proofmarks, and the same proofmarks alternate on the cylinder between the nipples. The complete matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder, back strap, loading lever, and wedge, with the arbor pin having the matching partial serial number "119." Complete in a mahogany partitioned case with blue velvet lining and a blank inscription plaque on the lid. The case contains a James Dixon powder flask, Eley Brothers cap tin, blued iron "COLT'S/PATENT" marked double cavity bullet mold, "L" shaped combination tool, cleaning rod, and a few lead balls and bullets. Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern Clergyman

Condition Extremely fine. The barrel retains 85% bright original high polish blue finish. The cylinder retains 50% plus original blue finish with a crisp roll engraved scene. The grip straps retain 40% original blue finish in and around the protected areas. The hammer, frame, and loading lever retain 80% original case colors. The grip is very fine with minor handling marks and retaining most of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with a cracked revarnished lid, minor handling/storage marks, and some typical high spot wear in the lining. The accessories are all fine or better. A cased Colt London Model 1849 percussion revolver that displays nicely.
