Civil War Era Factory Engraved Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver

This factory engraved Colt Model 1849 Pocket was manufactured in 1862 during the early part of the American Civil War and may have been purchased for presentation to a Union soldier. It features attractive scroll engraving with floral accents and beaded backgrounds, rayed decoration in some of the corners, and the factory day marking designating the revolver for factory engraving above or below the matching serial numbers on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. Additional matching serial numbers are found on the wedge, cylinder, arbor pin, and loading lever arm. The revolver is equipped with a dovetailed blade front sight and is marked with the two-line "-ADDRESS SAML COLT/HARTFORD CT.-" barrel address, "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame, "2" on the left side of the trigger guard, and the stagecoach scene on the cylinder. It is fitted with a smooth grip. Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern Clergyman

ConditionVery good overall with distinct engraving, mostly crisp markings, mottled gray patina, patches of mild pitting mainly on the cylinder, attractive aged patina on the brass grip straps, attractive aged coloration and grain on the grip along with some age lines, and general moderate wear suggesting this revolver was actually carried and used during the Civil War. Mechanically fine.
