John Collis of Oxford was active c. 1782-1798. The brass barrel has turned girdles, London proof marks flaking the "I-C" maker's mark at the breech, and has a 10 1/2 inch folding bayonet secured and released via a sliding lever on the barrel tang. The gauge is estimate. The bore flares to 1 3/8 inches at the muzzle. The lock is signed "Collis/OXFORD" under a festoon" at the center and has some additional light engraving and a sliding half-cock safety. The furniture is iron and includes a acorn trigger guard finial and engraving.

Fine with dark aged patina on the barrel, dark gray and brown patina on most of the iron, traces of case colors on the lock, repaired cock, and general mild wear. The refinished stock is also fine and has crisp checkering and mild dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
