Description:

The U.S. Model 1917 was the service rifle most used by infantrymen of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) throughout World War I, and continued to see use up through World War II and beyond as a surplus arm, making original unaltered examples with a high level of retained original finish, such as this example, a rarity today. Features a "W/flaming bomb/6-18" marked barrel, winged fixed blade front and elevation adjustable ladder peep rear sights, standard receiver markings, "flaming bomb" proof on left receiver wall, along with a "flaming bomb" and "B" stamped bolt with "W" marked cocking piece. Fitted with a smooth oiled walnut semi-pistol grip stock with "eagle head/539" proof behind the triggerguard, "W/96" on the nose, and steel trapdoor buttplate. Includes a "J.C.Co./WTG" marked M1907 leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, retaining 85% plus original factory blue finish with mild freckling, minor edge wear, cycling wear on the bolt, and limited spotting. The refinished stock is fine with a hairline crack at the bolt recess, attractive raised grain, along with crisp gasping groves and proof. Mechanically excellent.
