Description:

The "Fat Barrel" Luger was a very scarce variation intermixed with standard Model 1902 Luger production, and it is estimated that only about 600 were produced in total. These 1902 Lugers were manufactured in the approximate serial ranges of 22300-22400 and 22900-23500, with this example being between the two. They were the first handguns chambered for the 9 mm Luger Auto cartridge, with a 4 inch barrel, and were generally intended for sales outside of Germany. The top of the chamber bears the "American eagle" crest, and "DWM" monogram on the front toggle link. The frame is marked "GERMANY" under the serial number, with matching serial on the barrel and matching "64" partials on the takedown lever, trigger, side plate, safety, both toggle links (with "664" on the rear toggle), breech block, and extension. Features early recessed breech bolt, unmarked extractor, both the grip and thumb safety, narrow trigger, and the early dished toggles. The lower safety lever area is polished bright. Magazine is the correct early version with a nickel plated body and walnut base marked "Cal. 9m/m" on the bottom. Fitted with a pair of checkered walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine overall, retaining 85% plus original blue finish and 70% straw colors, with minor freckling, minor edge wear, limited spotting/pitting, minor brown patina on the grip frame, minor handling marks, and crisp chamber crest. The grips are exceptionally fine with minor compression wear and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
