The included factory letter confirms the current configuration of 4 3/4 inch barrel chambered for .45 caliber, with nickel finish and grips not listed when shipped as one of two to Universal Sales of Portsmouth, Ohio on February 23, 1960. On page 50 of "Colt Single Action Revolver Handbook 1955-1975", author Don Wilkerson notes that of all the .45 caliber Second Generation Single Action Army revolvers produced and shipped in black boxes (found in the 1002SA-38500SA serial range), only around 531 were manufactured with nickel finish and 4 3/4 inch barrels. Assembly number "519" is found on the loading gate and back of the frame. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, and "678" on the cylinder front face. Grips are un-numbered replacements. Includes original Colt box with matching serial on the bottom in grease pen, cleaning rod, manual, and a numbers matching State of New Jersey handgun purchase permit, dated February 3, 1995, registering the revolver to Robert J. Excellent overall, retaining 98% plus slightly frosted original nickel finish with light scuffing, a faint cylinder drag line, and otherwise limited handling evidence and crisp grip checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is exceptionally fine with minor edge rubbing.
