Per the Madis serial number data published by Winchester, this rifle is legally an antique. The Winchester Collectors Association indicates the rifle was manufactured in 1901. Often termed a "semi-deluxe", these Model 1894s with I-pattern stock checkering are actually more rare than their deluxe model counterparts which have H-pattern stock checkering. In the survey data published by Oswalt and Hawk of the 353,999 existing Model 1894 records, 26,934 are listed as takedowns, 17,768 with shotgun butts, 26,579 with half magazines, and 10,512 with checkered stocks, the majority of which were the deluxe H-pattern. The top flat of the part octagon barrel is marked with the standard two-line address and caliber marking, while the two-line nickel steel marking is offset on the left. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model and trademark information, while the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. The left side of the lower tang is marked "13474 S", the butt marked "94/T/13474", and the inside of the buttplate marked "13474". It is fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight and an elevation adjustable flat top notch rear sight. It is mounted with an I-pattern checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with a smooth steel shotgun buttplate and a hard rubber grip cap.

Fine, retains 60% of the original blue finish, 50% of the original case colors, and 30% of the nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina on high spots and some scattered patches of light spotting and surface pitting. The wood is also fine with non-factory initials on the bottom of the forend and some scattered light handling marks overall. Mechanically excellent.
