Description:

This example was manufactured in 1871 when the American West was still very much wild. Many legendary firearms are often cited as the "Guns that Won the West"; however, there are perhaps no long guns more iconic than the Winchester Model 1866 carbine. These carbines simply have "the look" of having been there when the West was being tamed and were carried for decades on the frontier by lawmen, cowboys, outlaws, Native Americans, gold prospectors, and settlers. This is a well-cared for Winchester Model 1866 saddle ring carbine that would look great in any lever action or frontier collection. The carbine is a Third Model, with the serial number marked in block digits behind the trigger on the lower tang. The top of the barrel has the two-line Winchester/King patent dates marking ahead of the rear sight. The carbine is fitted with a blade front sight integral to the barrel band, a folding two-leaf rear sight and a saddle ring on the left side of the brass receiver. The carbine forearm and straight grip stock are plain walnut. The buttstock is fitted with a brass trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included).

Rating Definition:

Fine, retaining 60% original blue finish with rub marks visible on left side of barrel, thinning to brown on the balance. The brass has an attractive bright appearance. The receiver is very fine with tight fitting side plates. 70% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The wood is also fine with minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A great looking Winchester Model 1866 carbine that is in well above average condition.
