Description:

This portrait depicts Stump Horn Bull, a member of the Crow Native American tribe. In the portrait taken by Christian Barthlemess and later printed by L.A. Huffman, Stump Horn Bull is shown fully dressed in floral pattern clothing with his hair in braids which frame his face. The braid on his right has feathers tied into it. His visible hand is adorned with a gold ring on the pinkie and lightly grasps a cigarette. Studio posed photographs such as this are what many people think of when they think of Wild West photos, rather than the sprawling landscapes that Huffman would take during his career. This collotype print resides in a wooden frame measuring 15 1/8 inches by 9 3/4 inches. Provenance: The John Fox Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine with storage and handling marks on the frame and a clear, unfaded image.
