Description:

Manufactured in 1876 as a third model, this is a solid example of a Winchester Model 1866 that has the look of having spent time on the Western Frontier. These "improved Henrys" were highly valued in the American West for their dependability and firepower. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two-line address and King's patent marking, while the serial number is marked on the lower tang in block numerals behind the trigger. The partial matching serial number, "1855", is marked in the stock inlet and inside the buttplate. It is fitted with a period-modified copper blade front sight and an elevation adjustable notch rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included).

Rating Definition:

Very good, the iron showing a mottled grey-brown patina with some scattered light spotting/surface pitting and attractively aged patina on the brass with a few scattered minor dings and tightly fitting sideplates. The wood is also very good with a couple minor edge chips and some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
