Description:

Manufactured in 1984 as a standard government model and was subsequently upgraded for Texas Ranger Captain Jack Dean. The replacement Wilson barrel has been fitted with a compensator with serrated blade front sight. The rear sight dovetail has been fitted with a Bo-Mar rear sight with serrations that extend down the rear face of the slide. The front of the trigger guard, frontstrap, and mainspring housing have been checkered, as well as the whole frame receiving a hard chrome finish. The magazine release has been replaced with an oversized replacement. Fitted with horn Colt grips marked "TEXAS/RANGER/CAPTAIN/JACK/DEAN" on the right panel. Jack Dean served the Texas Rangers as a member of both Company D (where he served as Captain) and Company F between 1970 and 1993 in the areas of McAllen, Waco, and San Antonio. During his time as a Texas Ranger he was involved in several high profile cases, including the arrest of Charles Harrelson, father of Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson, for the murder of John H. Wood, the first federal judge murdered in over a century. Dean left the Texas Rangers following his appointment to U.S. Marshall for West Texas, and became one of only six Texas Rangers appointed to do so. He severed as a Marshal for ten years. Dean passed away June 21, 2022. Included is a letter of provenance signed by Dean listing the pistol's model, caliber, serial number, condition, and modifications.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as a personal firearm of a Texas Ranger Captain, retaining 98% blue finish and 98% hard chrome with mild holster type wear on the leading edges of the slide and compensator, a takedown lever line, and some light discoloration in the grip strap checkering. Grips show use with a few scuffs and a surface chip on the right panel near the butt. The magazine follower hangs up on the slide release, otherwise mechanically excellent. It is not often one sees the opportunity to procure a known pistol owned by a Texas Ranger.
