This is an exceptional example of a Civil War Joslyn rimfire carbine. Approximately 8,000 Model 1864 Joslyn breech loading carbines were purchased by the Ordnance Department during the Civil War. Pinched blade front and three-leaf flip-up rear sights. It has the correct hooded firing pin and breech block release knob that distinguishes the Model 1864 carbine from the Model 1862 carbine. Matching serial number "9331" marked on the breech block and upper tang. Two boxed script "FDL" inspection cartouches stamped on the left stock flat above the saddle ring bar, with small "G.W.S" inspection initials stamped on the left of the breech, small "F.D.L" inspection initials on top of the stock ahead of the buttplate, and "US" marked buttplate tang. Provenance: The Andrew Singer Collection

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, retains 85% original blue finish on the barrel and sights, 80% vivid original case colors on the lock, breech block, trigger guard, saddle ring bar plate, barrel band, and buttplate, with scattered surface freckling, and sharp markings and edges in the metal overall. Stock is excellent with distinct edges, a few small nicks and light scratches, and exceptionally crisp cartouches. Mechanically excellent. This exceptional Joslyn Model 1864 carbine would be a prime addition in any Civil War or U.S. martial arms collection!
