Manufactured in 1917 and included in a shipment of 600 pistols (serial numbers 188,001 to 188,600) sent to the U.S. Springfield Armory in Massachusetts on October 25, 1917, as listed on page 519 of "U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1894-1920" by Meadows. Features fixed oval blade front and notch rear sights, blued barrel with "P" and "H" marked on top, checkered slide stop, thumb safety, magazine release, and wide spur hammer, short grip safety, smooth long trigger, and straight mainspring housing with a lanyard loop on the base. The slide bears the two-line, two-block patent date and manufacturer address on the left with Rampant Colt behind the slide serrations, along with model and U.S. Army nomenclature on the right side and "H" marked at the top of the hammer recess. The left side of the frame bear the U.S. property marking and circled "GHS" (Lt. Col. Gilbert H. Stewart) monogram inspection mark, with serial number on the right side. Fitted with a pair of diamond pattern checkered walnut grips and "R" marked two-tone magazine. Includes a "U.S." embossed brown leather M1916 flap holster marked "PERKINS/CAMBELL/1917/R.J.M." on the rear, with leather lanyard.

Very fine, retaining 80% plus original blue finish with some minor edge wear, minor cycling wear, some thinning on the grip straps and top of the slide revealing some brown and grey patina, minor spotting/freckling, some mild handling marks, and clear markings. The grips are fine with some compression wear in the otherwise defined checkering. Mechanically excellent. The holster is very fine with supple leather.
