Description:

Patterned after the British Fairbairn-Sykes dagger, 12 inches overall with a 7 inch double edged blade, etched with "U.S.M.C." and the Camillus address on the obverse, and a one-piece checkered zinc hilt. The leather sheath is fitted with steel reinforcement panels, and is carved on one side with a presentation inscription made out to a "Frank Mitchell" from a Major with the 3rd Parachute Battalion, that states, "with best wishes for 'many hapy landings'". While never making a live combat jump, the Paramarines of the United States Marine Corps did distinguish themselves in action on multiple occasions, including at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, with former Paramarines involved in both flag raisings on Mount Suribachi.

Rating Definition:

The dagger is very fine, with crisp etching, bright blade with minor spotting. Hilt is all intact, and the otherwise fine sheath shows some tearing/separation of the retention strap.
