Description:

This very rare double barreled blunderbuss from Joseph Bunney (active 1765-1814) has "London" in script inscribed on top of each barrel at the breech, Ordnance private proof marks, bead borders at the breech ends, and ringed muzzles that flare to 1 inch. The bores towards the breech end gauge around carbine bore (.65 caliber, 17 bore). The standing breech is engraved and grooved. The locks are each signed "Bunney" at the center, and each features a sliding half-cock safety, stepped tail, and a roller frizzen spring. The mounts are brass and feature some light border engraving. The stock has attractive checkering at the wrist and a baleen ramrod with light horn tip. Provenance: The Norman R. Blank Collection

Rating Definition:

Good with attractively aged patina on the brass barrels and mounts, distinct engraving and markings, gray and brown patina and mild pitting on the locks and standing breech, a nail added to secure the trigger guard finial, and refinished stock with some repairs and distinct checkering. Mechanically fine.
