Description:

William Buchele was one of the most significant earlier "contemporary" American riflemakers in the 20th century. He was active in the 1950s to 1970s and wrote "Recreating the American Longrifle" which has served as a guide for generations of subsequent builders and has helped keep the crafting of traditional American muzzle-loaders alive. The rifle has traditional blade and notch sights, "W Buchele" signed on the top flat, "Buchele" marked lock, brass furniture with nice engraving, "1776" inscribed patchbox lid, German silver and brass accents, a spread wing eagle and shield motif with a "WE OWE ALLEGIENCE TO NO CROWN" inscribed banner, raised relief carved scrollwork, and a rendition of Paul Revere's ride on the left side of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with 85% plus of the original brown finish with some light fading, generally minor overall wear, aged patina on the mounts and inlays, a thin crack on the left edge of the forend towards the midsection, minor overall wear, attractive figure, and distinct carving and engraving. Mechanically fine.
