Description:

Lantaka cannons such as this one were mounted on merchant vessels and warships traveling the waterways of Southeast Asia and were favored for their portability and maneuverability on a swivel mount. The consignor reports that this Lantaka cannon was dug up on the Pacific island of Mindanao during World War II and has been a part of several advanced cannon collections over the years. It has been reviewed by David Gonzalez from Australia who stated it is a Dutch colonial cannon, c. 1590-1600. The bronze cast tube has a 48 3/4 overall length, with a 41 inch length bore measuring approximately 1 1/2 inch diameter, with fine cast and raised floral decorations on the tube, blade and bead sights, integral pintle, and a modern hardwood display stand.

Rating Definition:

Very good with general age related wear and defined raised decorations.
