Manufactured in 1905, this is a very fine example of a special ordered Winchester deluxe Model 1894 short rifle in a scarcely seen configuration. The included factory letter lists the rifle in .30 caliber with a 22 inch round barrel, plain trigger, 3/4 magazine, takedown configuration, Lyman front and rear sights, and a checkered pistol grip stock with rubber shotgun buttplate when received at the warehouse on 20 September 1905 and shipped on 7 October 1905. According to research compiled by Oswalt and Hawk based on the 353,999 existing Model 1894 ledger records, this configuration is quite scarce. They note that only 459 guns were special ordered with a 3/4 length magazine, the second rarest magazine tube length. They also note that only 2,252 rifles were ordered with 22 inch barrels. Additionally, they note that 10,512 guns were ordered with checkered stocks and 17,768 with shotgun butts, with all of these features together, in addition to special order sights, making for a rare rifle indeed. Winchester factory oval proofs are on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The top of the barrel has the standard two-line address, while the two-line nickel steel and caliber marking are on the left. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model and trademark information and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. The left of the lower tang is marked "21502 RX", with "21502 T 94" marked in the stock inlet. It is fitted with a ramped Lyman beaded blade front sight, three leaf rear sight with platinum inlaid centerlines, and a Lyman tang mounted peep sight. It is mounted with a very nicely figured, H-pattern checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber grip cap and checkered shotgun buttplate.

Very fine, retains 85% plus of the original blue finish with a few patches of light pitting on the receiver showing a dark grey patina, 75% plus of the original case colors, and 95% plus of the original nitre blue on the loading gate. The wood is also very fine with some minor varnish flaking on the forearm and scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
