Peter and David Moll of Hellertown, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley were notable 19th century American pistol and rifle makers until 1853. The swamped octagonal barrel has blade and notch sights, a brass inlaid panel on top inscribed "P. &. D. Moll. Hellertown. Penna" brass inlaid panels with wavy line patterns on the upper left and right, and a pair of German silver inlaid bands at the breech. The lock is marked "R. KINGSLAND & Co/WARRANTED" and has floral engraving. The rifle is equipped with adjustable double set triggers and has German silver mounts. Provenance: The Mike D'Ambra Collection; Property of a Gentleman

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel has dark artificial brown patina, mild pitting, aged patina on the brass inlays, and distinct engraving and signature. The lock has gray and brown patina. The German silver mounts and inlays are bright and appear newer than the barrel and lock. The restored stock has repairs, splices, and cracks, including a break through the breech section. Some added length at the latter section leaves a gap at the nose of the lock and the forend extending slightly past the muzzle. The lock and triggers function separately but need some fit adjustments.
