Description:

This late 19th century rifle was built by Norwegian gunmaker Hans Larsen's Liege factory and is a "tennstempel" (falling block) rifle design with a lever on the right side similar to the Norwegian "kammerlader" (chamber loading) percussion rifles. It is fired using a back action lock with an internally mounted hammer and an adjustable single set trigger. The exact cartridge is unclear, but the muzzle measured approximately .40 caliber (most likely 10.15x61 mm R). The barrel features an adjustable blade front sight, notch and ladder rear sight, "H. LARSEN DRAMMEN" in silver on top at the breech, "STAAL" on the upper right, and "PATENT" on the upper left along with pre-1893 Liege proof marks. Serial number "300" is marked on the barrel, on the inside of the forend, and on the right side of the action. The action and mounts feature foliate scroll engraving. The wood features relief scrollwork carving, a dark horn forend cap, semi-pistol grip buttstock, and oval cheekpiece.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 95% plus original blue finish on the barrel, dark patina and some oxidation around the silver inlaid markings at the breech, 70% original blue on the frame and furniture, light original case colors, patches of mild surface oxidation, crisp engraving, and generally minor overall wear mostly from age and storage. The wood is also very good and has crisp carving and scattered scratches and dings. The trigger does not set; otherwise, the rifle is mechanically fine.
