Description:

Receiver manufactured in February 1942, two months after the United States' forced entry into World War II, then subsequently transferred to Britain as a part of the Lend-Lease Act, in which the United States shipped large amounts of supplies and arms to support the beleaguered Allied European nations. Features a winged blade front with retained screw cap and 'flush nut' adjustable peep rear sight assembly, "2" marked Springfield Armory pattern narrow-base gas cylinder with chamfered lock and single-slot plug, arched profile lower band with staked solid retaining pin, single-grove milled rear handguard clip, "S-A-1-42" barrel with British proofs and bright chamber, uncut "D35382 3 SA" operating rod, "D28287-2SA/RE5A" bolt, "8" follower, short fork follower rod, and "D28290-5-SA" trigger housing with "C46008-2 SA" hammer, modified "C46015-6SA" safety, and "J" marked milled trigger guard. Fitted with smooth oiled walnut handguards and stock bearing a boxed "S.A./G.H.S." (Col. Gilbert H. Stewart) inspection cartouche and large "ordnance wheel" stamp on the left of the wrist, along with a circled serif "P" firing proof on the grip. Includes a tan M1 'flat buckle' web sling. Also includes a numbers matching M1 Garand data sheet signed by noted author Scott A. Duff, dated November 5, 2007, which confirms the rifle's current configuration and notes bore measurements of "1.0" at the throat and muzzle.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 98% original parkerized finish with minor edge wear, some minor spotting/brown patina showing, minor cycling wear, but otherwise limited minor handling marks. The stock and furniture are exceptionally fine with scattered light dents and compression marks, along with an exceptionally crisp cartouche and large ordnance wheel stamp. Mechanically excellent. It would take some effort to improve on a 1942 production and British Lend Lease proofed M1 rifle such as this example!
