Description:

Manufactured in January 1945 as a part of the "Second Alphabet Run: Second Variation" production block, in which Mauser introduced the use of a dull grey phosphate finish along with blued components as described on page 30 of "The P.38 Pistol: Volume II" by Warren H. Buxton, with this example displaying phosphate finish on all components except the barrel. It is also noted on the same page that the change occurred somewhere in the "b" suffix serial range. Features fixed blade front and notch rear sights, "byf/44" code on the left of the slide with "eagle/swastika" and dual "eagle/WaA135" proofs on the right, along with "eagle/WaA135" proofs on the frame, barrel, and locking block. Matching serial numbers present on the slide, frame, barrel, and locking block. Fitted with a pair of ribbed black plastic grips along with an "eagle/WaA135" proofed and "P.38v" marked blued magazine (with broken slide catch tab). Includes a "0/0833/0007" numbered, "P38" marked, and "eagle/swastika" proofed black leather flap holster and an extra "eagle/WaA108" proofed and "jvd" code blued magazine.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 90% plus original blue and phosphate finishes with some minor holster pattern edge wear, plum coloration showing on the barrel, some discoloration on the firing pin cover, and otherwise limited minor handling marks. The grips are also excellent with a few minor scrapes. Mechanically excellent. The holster is very fine with supple leather.
