Westley Richards is one of the finest makers of fine arms in world for over 200 years. This pair of rifles would have been built for a gentleman heading abroad whom was planning to hunt a wide variety of game from smaller plains game all the way up to the dangerous query such as elephant and cape buffalo, it truly is a do-all set that would still be just effective today as the day it left New Bond Street. The rifle was manufactured in 1913 Per Nigel Brown's "British Gunmakers Volume One: London" as was made with blued steel barrels featuring a beaded blade front sight with hood, a four leaf (one standing, three folding) rear sight on the rear quarter rib, and the front sling swivel on the underside. The barrels display fine floral scroll engraving down the rib and around the breech with ".577 CARTRIDGE" and "AXITE 100/750 Grs." engraved on the right and left barrels respectively and "WESTLEY RICHARDS 178 NEW BOND St. LONDON GUN MAKERS BY SPECIAL APPOINTMENT TO HIS MAJESTY KING EDWARD VII." signed on the sunken section of the rib. The barrels show period London proof marks indicating the loading as a 750 grain bullet on top of 100 grains of Cordite. The barrels are fitted to a beautifully engraved hand detachable droplock action which shows fine scrollwork surrounding gold inlaid "WESTLEY RICHARDS." signatures on either side, a lion on the triggerguard, and a trumpeting bull elephant on the floorplate. The rifle features a single selective trigger, chambers with automatic ejectors, and tang mounted safety with secondary bolt safety both with gold inlaid indicators. The rifle is fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings, Deeley latch release, and a horn tip as well as a pistol grip stock with tear drop carved and checkered flats, casehardened and engraved trapdoor grip cap, blank inscription oval, raised cheekpiece, rear sling swivel, and rubber recoil pad.
