Description:

Remington manufactured these distinctive multi-shot pistols from the mid-1860s through around 1888. They were advertised in 1866 as "Repeating Pistol, (Elliot pt.) No. 22 Cartridge" and "Repeating Pistol, (Elliot pt.) No. 32 Cartridge." The former is often referred to as the No. 1 size and the latter as the No. 2 size. This pair of pistols are fine examples of the No. 2 Deringers, with both having very attractive acid etching on the barrels and engraving on the frames. The engraving consists of floral scroll on the sides of the frames and back straps, and large starburst designs on both recoil shields. The engraving on both pistols appears nearly identical. The top two barrels on both pistols have very attractive, floral pattern acid etching, with slight variations in the design between the two. The left ribs between the barrels are marked with the one-line address, while the right has the Elliot's patent dates. The matching serial number is marked on the frames under the barrels and on the bottom of the barrels. They are both fitted with a pair of smooth antique ivory grips. Includes a custom made case that is disguised as a book, with the interior fitted for both pistols.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with faint traces of original blue and silver finishes in sheltered areas with the balance mostly mottled grey and brown patina, some light surface pitting/spotting, and the engraving/etching remaining crisp. The grips are fine with a few light handling marks and attractively aged tone. Mechanically fine. The custom made case is fine with a separated binding and mild wear on the balance.
