The grouping contains nine very desirable Native American prints, with eight being by L. A. Huffman (1854-1931) and one by William Henry Jackson and stamped the Detroit Photographic Co. The prints by Huffman all show Native Americans one of his more common subjects in his early photographic career. Six of the prints are marked with Huffman's copyright, one is backed with card stamped on the back for Huffman, and one is on paper which has Kodak watermarks on the back along with an L. A. Huffman stamp (one of the women's faces is crossed out with pen). The prints all feature Native American men, women, and children in traditional dress. The vivid print of “The Return of the Hunters,” 1904 by William Henry Jackson (1843 – 1942) and stamped by The Detroit Photographic Company portrays Native Americans returning from home from a hunt. The village near a lake with three men in a canoe arrive at the shore where some women and children wait. The Photochrome color print has a 1904 copyright in the lower right and it is matted with cream colored card. The large print measures 12 x 14 inches including the card, while the other prints are smaller cabinet card sized. Jackson was a famed American photographer, Civil War Veteran, a storied explorer of the American West. Jackson and was inducted to the International Photography Hall of Fame in 1982. All are fine or better showing distinct imagery and minimal fading with some scattered light handling/storage marks and a few light stains. An attractive grouping of Native American prints!
