Description:

L. A. Huffman (1835-1931), an immensely influential and historically important frontier photographer of the American West, documented Montana's cowboys, ranchers, landscapes, wildlife, livestock, and native populations in their natural states. These prints both feature sheep ranching scenes, common imagery seen on the Montana plains during the late 19th century. The first is titled "Sheep by waterside. Big Dry-Mont." and is also marked "#304" and "Huffman-Photo", all in black ink. The other print has been lightly colorized with water color paint and is titled "Follow The Leader. Jumping Sheep." and marked with the L. A. Huffman copyright, all in white ink. Both are fitted with white/cream colored matting, with one measuring 10 x 14 inches and the other measuring 14 1/4 x 24 1/4 inches (including the matting). Includes a Coffrin's Old West Gallery certificate stating that the "Follow The Leader" print was made by Huffman in the 1920s and that the coloring was done by him or under his direction. Provenance: The John Fox Collection

Rating Definition:

Both are fine or better, with both showing distinct imagery and minimal fading. The smaller of the two has a couple minor creases and some glue residue near the top. These Huffman prints make wonderful display pieces!
