Description:

This revolver was manufactured in 1856 while Gustave Young was the primary engraving contractor and features beautiful factory entwining scroll engraving with foliate accents and beaded backgrounds. There is a wolf head on the hammer and an eagle head amongst the scrollwork on the left side of the barrel lug. The hammer has three dots, signifying it took three days to complete the engraving on this revolver. The barrel has the presentation style "Saml Colt" inscription rather than the roll-marked address, and the frame has "COLTS/PATENT" inscribed rather than stamped on the left side among the scrollwork. The factory "l" marking for special engraving/finishing is marked on the frame, trigger guard, and butt, and matching serial numbers are noted on the cylinder, wedge, arbor pin, loading lever, barrel, frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. It comes in a period partitioned case with lead balls, iron bullet/ball mold with sprue cutter marked "COLTS/PATENT", double sided eagle powder flask (broken spring), "L" shaped combination tool, and Eley Brothers cap tin.

Rating Definition:

Very good, retaining 20% original blue finish in and around the protected surfaces on the barrel and 75% original silver plating on the grip straps, otherwise the revolver a smooth untouched dark patina. The grip is fine with edge wear, scattered numerous minor dings and scratches, and much of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with handling/storage marks on the exterior, reglued partitions, and worn lining. Accessories are good with heavy pitting on the bullet mold.
